Update as of May 1, 2008 160 flues and three large super heaters have been installed. For the hydrostat test that was completed November 14, 2007, by Frank Buck and Art Johnson, who are with the FRA, the engine was filled with 5,500 gallons of water and 240 pounds pressure was applied. This is 25% more pressure than the engine will be operated at. The next FRA inspection will be when the engine is steamed up to run. Insulation, piping and covering have been installed where the cab will sit and that area was painted. The cab was set in place on the engine. All the controls in the cab have been installed, including brake and brake piping, fuel and burner control piping. The water injector system was installed. A new large, 2 1/2" pipe for the injector system has been bent to fit. Feed water heater system has also been installed. Steel skeleton support, to hold the insulation and lagging (outer skin of the engine), has been made and installed. About half of the insulation and lagging has also been installed. We are still planning on a fall 2008 completion of #3415.
